I have not yet read a report or heard from any of my 3 cousins/uncles in the Plymouth Fire Dept. including Water rescue that they were out east of the Gurnet. CG Reports also initially stated they were from RI.
Stick to the facts of the matter.
2 Nights ago High tide was at 9:20 in Plymouth
Tide was letting out and around 11:30 it was probably really ripping.
1st Call came in around 11:20
1st Survivor picked up hanging onto a Channel Marker just outside Plymouth Harbor at 2AM
By the time they picked up the 2nd guy he could have easily been near #1 Channel Marker even if he let go of his buddy only 30 minutes earlier.
Truly a sad story and proof to the fact that boating should not be taken lightly no matter what time of year. It is a good thing someone knew where they were headed otherwise it would have been just a recovery and not a rescue effort.
Here is a shot of Plymouth Harbor and a 2 mile route from the center of the harbor.

stand up kid, stand up family, terrible situation
It is a horrible story but I think the lesson here is (as a family member of one of the boys pointed out) they shouldn't have been out there at night in a 15 foot boat, all it takes is one little thing to go wrong- you're in the dark, the water is cold and there's nobody available to just call on the radio, if it were July different ball game with water temps and available people to call or send up a flare and there's a likelihood someone can get to you, there are so many jetties to fish off of it makes no sense to be out there, it just makes for a dangerous situation. I don't think any of us really enjoys being out there all alone because we all know that it doesn't take much- I am sorry for the young men and their families this is a real tragic event.
