I finally got the pics developed this morning,I didn't know if they would come out considering I dropped the damn camera in the spot I was diggin. We went today but at 90 cents a pound I hate to dig, same old story we get every year oh well at least we have a job.I want to get the boat in the water, less ice to contend with on the outer islands although we are having a heat wave at 30 degrees,I was diggin in a sweat shirt it was so warm, got to love it!Hope the pics come out,I'll have to borrow my wifes good camera if they don't,I can see me now droppin that in the mud,I will be sleepin in the shop! The guy in the red jacket goes with me clammin,he's the one that dragged me to the ledge last summer when I fell in the mud.
Beautifull PB, I'm not sure folks can understand the beauty in the flats. (or the work). Looks like the Mother Load to me !!!!!
Don
wait to this spring when the young guys get out in the mud hand pickin,I hope to get some good pics if I can stay on my feet!I plan on doing some outer island clammin,I 'll get me another wally world special camera $9.95,you can even drop them in the mud & they still take pics, how can you beat it!
PB
Far more scenic than my photos!
couple of the places we dig has way to much ice, years ago we used to move the ice cakes but now I just wait for the damn stuff to melt.We are going to try the morning tide,if I get one roller it is better than nothing,I saw a hot spot when I was walking off the flats,DAMN it's going to be hard to sleep tonight,I'll be counting clams instead of sheep!![]()
I had to attend a clam meeting last night, wow that was fun,we only went $11,000 in the hole this past season, somebody has to pay the clam cops!We have to do 7 hours of community service, reseeding, flats survey & shoreline cleanup plus attend 3 meetings, only 2 more,I can hardly wait!I went this afternoon, managed to scrape out 73 lbs,not the best days pay but better than O!I may go down the shore in the morning,if I get a peck it will help with the afternoon tide,at least it's warm,27 degrees how can you beat it.I'm going to try my luck at photographer again & this time I will try not to drop the damn camera in the mud![]()
to my fellow clammers,I hope you are getting more for your clams than we are,I was given news tonight expect clams to go down possibly to 50 cents a pound. The area I took pics of my friend we have taken only 10 bushels out of there for this week, not good but why dig anymore at the price they are now.I am going to try to get the mornin tide, for no other reason,I love my job & it's nice being there early in the mornin, the deer make there way down to the flats, I have to share the flats with the racoons,& occasionally a lost moose will venture out,one chased a friend of mine around a big rock one mornin,I laughed to the point of crying until the damn thing headed in my direction, luckily he took to the water & swam to an island.I know some will think I am nuts to say I love clammin but all the things I have mentioned add it all together with the beauty of the "ROCK BOUND COAST OF MAINE",does it get any better!![]()
After diggin steady for a week or so I never would have believed bending over to adjust the bed frame would throw my back out,but it did!I went tonight to test the waters,I dug a peck & the pain was so bad I had to give it up,luckily I had someone with me to drive home. When I used to drink on a regular basis I could fall down get up & not even miss a stride, now I am physically challenged & mentally deprived, just might have to start drinkin again!
