Celtic Quest Cod trip 2-27

[Fishing Report]

What a way to start off the 2011 Fishing Season. I got Invited on the Jay C’s Noreast Cod Fish Trip. I always like these trips, not only do you get to fish but there’s always Great Food,Prizes and good company. This trip we had 2 custom made Rods built by Ralph (Rodwinder) for 1st and 2nd Place.


Although I was probably High Hook I lost count I caught so Many, Good Friend Chris Nappe won second Place with this Big Fat Cod. 1st Place went to Seane just barely edging Chris out. But both won a custom rod so it really didn’t matter .

We left the dock at 9 pm and raced to the spot hoping for a night time bite that never developed. I think this is just a dumb idea as it’s getting so bad just to get to a spot you have to leave the night before??? I mean these fish aren’t 30 or 40 plus lbs fish there barley keepers there enough fish there for everyone so what’s the rush??? Come on guys can’t you all agree to a 3 am departure and be done with it.

We left the dock at 9 PM sailed for 2.5 hours and began our night fishing for COD. Capt.Desi Tried at least 5 different spots with only 3 or 4 shorts to show between 30 guys. The weather man was so dead wrong it wasn’t funny. We had SNOW then RAIN hitting us in the face with a south wind plus the 2 to 3 ft seas were more like 4 to 5′ Seas. To be honest it sucked so bad I took a nap from 2:30 to 4 am and wanted to go HOME. When I woke up Capt.Paul made some strong Coffee and this was just what I needed. I was back at the rail and someone threw a switch and the COD’S were biting there heads off. I proceed to limit out and was a catching Machine basically hit the bottom and you got em type fishing. I was in the Port Bow section along with a Nappe, Kevin (Filo) and 2 other guys I can’t remember there names Because I’m so tired sorry guys, but we were ALL KILLING THE CODS!!!

Now it’s day break and every boat in Montauk is drifting for cods so we pulled the hook and drifted with the fleet. This was even more insane Fishing as EVERYONE was landing Keepers after Keeper and a GO-ZILLION shorts lol!!!

I really can’t tell you how many I actually caught because I lost count all I know is Chris and I both limited out along with many others and we were throwing back keepers. Reel Cranky Bill was MR.DOUBLE HEADER landing so many in a row he should change his name to Mr.Double Header lol!!!

EVEN JAYBASS LIMITED OUT HAHAHAHAHA!!!! That’s how good it was.

Capt.Desi and the Crew did a Fantastic job once again and this trip will go down as one of my all time catching fest, I’m so glad I went Thank you Jay and everyone who brought food it was really great to see and fish with all my Noreast brothers.

So here i am with all this COD so The A-TEAM wanted to know how I cook the COD? I told them I like to take it down to my favorite Chinese Place and have them cook it Cod Sesame or General Chow Cod. So what does Calvin do he has it cooked right away and now he says he’ll eat all his fish that way. Wait till he trys Striped Bass this way OMG its so good
