Causeway Bait and Tackle Report - Long Island South Shore 5-25
Greetings from the Biggest Little Tackle Shop on Long Island. It's been a while since we've posted here and we apologize. We hope you find this information helpful and get on the fish like others have.
Our latest reports indicate the bays have been lighting up with all sorts of fish including fluke, flounder (can you believe it), blues and striped bass. We'll break it down by fish type.
Fluke As mentioned, the bays have been holding up well. Smaller fish have been found behind the Merrick Golf Course. If you are in search for the keepers, try Swift Creek.
Blues They were hammering the bluefish today according to John M. Most were taken between the Wantagh and Meadowbrook Parkway bridges. Any kind of tins or diamond jigs have been working. Follow the birds!
Stripers Clam chumming is the ticket throughout the bay. Fish have been taken on both the incoming and outgoing tides but your best bet is on the outgoing. We have been hearing bass over 30 lbs are being picked up while trolling in 30' between Jones and Debs. We also heard that the Great South Bay has been nothing short of exciting.
FlounderWe couldn't believe it either. Jones Beach Piers, the U.S. Coast Guard Station and Sore Thumb have all been seeing flounder in good numbers. Sand worms with clam or mussel chum has been the success story.
