    Castafari Update...Tuna...tuna...tuna

Well being that its almost holiday season and most of us fish nuts are in hunting mode, Im tempted to take my 130's apart. But its been a great finish to a fantastic season of fishing. September weather was a handful, but once the wind stopped, we had a blast chasing oversized mambo jambo tuna around. We finished the season catching giants on almost every October/November trip which was a nice bonus. It helped that the bite was nothing short of fantastic. We even pulled a few real ones out of the bay at the very end. That never gets old....catching fish the size of cars...within sight of land. Then again running trips 150 miles offshore to Georges Bank and messing with fish that had never seen a hook before was cool too! I hope that fishery sticks around in years to come. Its a long way from home and if you dont have the boat or range to do it with ease..then don't even think about trying to sneak out there. The ocean is a scary place that far from home. and even on those light and variable flat rolling days...she sleeps with one eye open!

We tried to get back out there on Monday and had to turn around as it was way too rough. Its so far away there are multiple weather systems always changing with each 50 mile trek. The bite at Georges is thinning out anyway. Unfortunately the close to home bay bite is finito. The draggers are gone as the whiting season is done. There are fish on the bank...most sub giant size below the 85 inch mark. Dogfish are brutal and make it virtually impossible to fish bait. Trolling is the only way. I would suggest trolling with a kite if you can. I will be talking about this method at the 2011 Big Game Bash. It allows you to fish live and dead baits while skipping them across the surface. The Carolina boys crush the yellowfin doing this. Believe me it works. Also trolling mackeral is a great way to catch fish out there this time of year. We caught some nice fish trolling macks, even in the early season. I will have Volume 2 of the Castafari Baitrigging DVD series ready very soon. It will be available at the seminar as well and will feature some very effective and easy to learn methods for trolling mackeral of all sizes.

Good luck getting settled for the snow and ice. It wont be long. Also please keep me in mind if you're interested in buying or selling a boat as I will be on Cape all winter/spring working for Buzzards Bay Yacht Sales. I hope you all had a great season, and thanks to those of you who checked out the Castafari Monster Club IPTV Show. I have some very cool videos documenting some of the giant tuna trips we did this fall coming over the next few days. It takes a lot of time to edit all of this footage...though its a high class problem to have I guess. I certainly have the time now

How long have you been trolling with a kite? That is something I have seen no one else do other than myself and the 27 ocean master - sholtz (sp?)
