    CASTAFARI STRIPED BASS TOURNAMENT

Im contemplating adding an inshore event to the tournament series, possibly in June out of Hyannis or even at my marina at Kingman Yacht Center. There is a small yacht club on the premises that I could probably run the event from. Its on a dock. There is a wiegh station, fuel ect Just wanted to get peoples thoughts on that. The focus would most likely be a small boat setting...maybe have it so people can drive their catches via road to the weigh in.

I'd be interested, granted you go the "drive your fish in" route, considering it is quite a boat ride from CCB to Kingman.

Nice idea Cappy. I'd imagine Jason Mazzola, who will be skating tomorrow night, would also be interested so that makes 3 of us-not quite enough for a tourney but a start nonetheless.

I think I would make it a 1st thru 5th place winning structure. You know this type of thing will generate fish beating other fish out by sometimes a matter of ounces. The castafari missed 1st place in a tuna tournament a few years ago by an ounce! No lie...one ounce. That was even worse than 6 minutes!

I think June is a good time for a bass tourney because the commercial guys arent fishing yet...less boats...less pressure...if I did it during commercial season the commercial guys would be at an advantage so I think it would work well. Just need to work out location. I like the mainland concept on the northern cape as I want people from all over the place to be able to fish this thing. I would do mandatory polygraphs, and I would hand out tournament flags at the captains meeting which would have to be in a digital pic of the fish while the fish is still alive and with fresh color.

Those who try and cheat will be publicly humiliated and prosecuted.

Tourneys are tough for me b/c of the charter sched. but I think a bass tournament would be fun.
What type of format are you thinking? - how many days, round the clock fishing, geographical limits, etc?

I understand not wanting to run it during commercial season, but everybody is a striper hero in June - the later you can do it the better. It'll separate the pack.

I like the thought of have a one day tourney. I also think it would be nice to have people fish the bay (north) or the back side (south side). Ill speak for myself, Its a pain to pull my boat to fish one day on the south side. I am very comfortable just leaving it in my slip......

Their are 2 fishing tourneys that I know of in July....Dream Day, which is a 2 day fishing tourney and one called the Head Hunt , which is a 1 day tourney. You also have the Cronin in August.....so June would be nice, that way it gives some a chance to fish one tourney a month.

My personal view is that you have the captains meeting on a friday night. Have the lines in the water on Saturaday. Say something like 5am till 3pm. Weight in at 3pm -5pm, then dinners...prizes..etc from 6-9..or later....In regards to weigh in...pick 2 spots ...say the Powderhorn as the south side and use Andy and Goose Hummock for the Norht side...You could also get some of the local marinas on board for some transit boat slips...some guys may want to fish the whole weekend as well.....and in regards to where to host it..I beleive the Hyannis Anglers Club will be done by the end of May....not a bad location to run the whole show from...

last...I think it should be one fish, wins it all...cash.........no need to be hanging fish all day looking for a winner...biggest fish...biggest prize.....I know some like to break down the prize money....I just have the view that you should get the whole thing......maybe some local tackle stores may make some donations....that stuff could be used for second and third places..

I am thinking running it from Kingman Yacht Center which is centrally located 5 minutes south of the Bourne Bridge in northern Buzzards Bay. The weekend Im thinking is 3rd in June..either fathers day weekend or the weekend after. What do you guys think about allowing people to drive their catch to the wiegh station. Im thinking one day event. captains meeting/party on friday....fishing saturday all day and having the captains party on saturday night. awards ceremony then as well, tent, food, band, bar...ect. If I provide all that stuff free Im thinking 350 entry fee or I can tone it down and get it cheaper.

The big enchilada expense is the tent/food. Its gonna be 12 grand for Tuna Fest 2011. But Ive always been a beleiver of putting on an "event" for people

If I get the interest, I will do the event.
