It was nice to stow the bass gear and get things underway for tuna fishing. We enjoyed a great day on the water with some decent action. If youre interested in checking it out, there is a video up on the Castafari Monster Club documenting the trip at www.castafari.com.
We spent several days re-rigging our Offshore Innovations spreadar bars and have some beautiful stinger baits waiting to be inhaled by hungry tuna. We tested things out yesterday with 10 time returning Castafari guest, Ted Brown on board. I decided to run the boat north and fish in the vicinity of Stellwagon Bank and Cape Cod Bay as Chatham has been slow. There have been a few fish taken southwest of the BC bouy, but not the numbers were used to seeing this time of year. Theres a ton of sandeels around though, not to mention a ton of bluefish too...wreaking havoc on everybodys rigs.
We left the dock at 3am and put lines in at Peaked Hill by 5am. Saw whales and bait everywhere. Tons of bluefish and bass too, literally all over the place stacked on the screen of my finder. It didnt take long for the long rig to get hammered...black bar/white stinger. 25 minutes later a 64 inch fish hit the deck caught by Ted...great way to start the day!. We trolled and eventually switched over to kite fishing live bait, but the bluefish were ruthless. Caught 26 bluefish and 4 bass. Our pogies were literally vaporized after a few minutes! Saw a lot of promising signs though both on the bank and at Peaked Hill. There are boats doing ok drifting live pogies in the deep water off the edge of the bank just east of the Southwest corner. Just watch out for the high flyer gear. We'll be back at it tomorrow with returning guest Greg Adamovich. More fish and more video on the way. Tight lines everyone and enjoy the sun...while it lasts![]()
