Castafari Block Island Tri-State Tourney Report

Im sitting at the tiki bar on Paynes Dock in Block Island just chilling out on the final day of the Tri-State shootout. The Castafari fished mon and tues and stayed at the dock for a lay day today...a much needed one after last night

We ran to West Atlantis and trolled along the 100 fathom line all the way to Veatch. We had steady action with small to medium sized yellows to 50 pounds as well as going 2 for 3 on whites. Our whitey batting average is pretty good this year being 4 for 5 in the 2 trips weve done. The boys are on their game back there! Unfortunately Kevin Glynn couldnt get here in timke for the trip because of bad weather so we had to fish without the lucky irishmen. Maybe if he was on the boat I would have gone right instead of left...why right?....because the Hudson canyon has a lights out bigeye bite happening right now...insane action. You go there...you morer than likely catch bigeye...end of story. Most boats fishing there had multiples...one boat hooked 8. A 280 pound fish has the lead now in the tourney. Lotta eyeballs taken. I wish we were lucky enough to have been there but I was fooled by the beautiful temp break at Hydro...it looked so good! Nothing big out there though..except dreams and expectations.

We did hook a monster on the night bite at Veatch on a live squid in 2000 feet of water...pulled the hook after a struggle. That was a heartbreaker as it was the closest we got to getting some money in this thing.

The event was a blast though. The guys at J and B did another great job. My charter the Tim Riordan crew were a pleasure to fish with. They all caught loads of yellowfin and mahi as well as their first ever marlin. So overall a decent trip with no bigeye. We also fished last week getting 8 bluefin to 71 inches in the bay. The bluefin fishing is incredible right now...absolutely on fire. We will be4 blasting back to the canyons on Friday. Right now the boys and I are getting ready to hit the awards ceremony and then the town...should be interesting Tight lines
