Cape Cod Fishing Report

Cape Cod Bay is Alive...
The weekend of the 1st of May was much warmer than years past. The trees are spouting their leaves much earlier. Hopefully, the fish will also be early. By Sunday the first mackerel had been caught by boats from Rock Harbor and good size stripers were being landed up in South Sunken Meadow using chunked mackerel casting from shore. On Monday a large school of herring was spotted about a mile off Sesuit Harbor in Dennis. This school of herring was being decimated by striped bass up to 35 inches. The two boats who fished indicated the fish would hit anything. Tuesday these fish were not about to be found, they must be on the move. But where?
This type of activity usually happens in the middle of May, not this early. I've heard that some bluefish are along the south shore of the Cape. This is very early also. I'm going to check things out this weekend up between the Eastham shore and Billingsgate Island to see if the bigger bass have moved out of the shallow water or those fish to the west, by Sesuit, have moved down our way. Hopefully the weather will be good. I'll put what I find on the contact page on my web site and send it to Dave so he can put it up on this one. Wish me luck...
If you'd like to try some light tackle spring fishing give me a call at: 508-240-8267 or 508-255-6211
Thanks Hap!
