We decided to make the run to the edge on Thursday morning after looking at the weather reports till my eyes hurt. Glad we did, the ride out was the worst part of it with big swells from the south and north east wind. The swells died off by night and the wind laid down, not bad at all. Started at the top of Veatch and trolled toward East Atlantis along the 600' line. Veatch had no temp brakes and it wasn't till about half was to East Atlantis that we saw the temp go up, from 71 to 76. The marlin bite was great along the brake with 3 hooked, unfortunately all 3 did not make it to the boat. One pulled hook on a white, one billed leader on a big blue while putting on a nice air show, and one crew failure on a white. The yellow fin were all in the 74 to 75 degree water that was around east Atlantis, both east and west walls in over 1000'. We ended up with 13 YFT most over 50 lbs, all on the troll. It's nice to see a larger class of fish than we saw last year. We had yellows under the boat at night feeding on squid, they were on the sounder for over 2 hours solid. Not one taker, not on live squid, jigs or anything you could put out there. We hooked and fought what turned out to be a big shark for over a hour, that was the only night action. It funny how the YFT night action doesn't turn on till later in the season. The cold water was moving west and we ended up in 71 degree water by the time we started trolling at 4.30 am. We worked the west wall in the morning with a steady pick of YFT and then trolled north about 10 miles with no fish caught in the high grounds. The ride back was great with only 1 foot chop all the way to the hooter. Also picked up some mahi on the high flyer's, all smaller females. Hope to be back at it soon.

Nice work ken! I'm jealous. Hoping for a window this weekend. Interested if anyone has fished the warm water on the other side of the eddy. It looks to be moving west too from hydro into veatch.
