    Cabo

    Hi guys,

Was down last December and we are heading back this Thursday 11/12/2009 Here is a copy of my report from last year. Call Capt Ramon from Dream Weaver Charters. He works his but off to keep you on the fish. Good luck and have a blast. Back on the 23rd and will post up.

    Cabo Marlin Madness
Hello fellow fish freaks. Michele and I just got back from a week in Cabo. We had read and heard about the great Striped Marlin bite for the last several years but this was our first trip down. I booked a Captain with a beautiful 32 Blackfin that had just been totally rebuilt. The name is “Dream Weaver Charters” Capt Ramon Montano. We told Ramon that we wanted to go to “Golden Gate Bank” to pitch live mackerel and only wanted Marlin. We went out on 12-11-2008 at 0600. About a forty minute ride north up the pacific coat. Approaching the Bank we could see boats, Whales and as we got closer Seals slashing through bait. Looking closer we also could see Marlin in the mayhem slashing bait, backs coming out of the water, lots of them. Ramon yelled get a bait ready, I did. He spun the boat to a hard stop and we pitched two baits. Within 15 seconds of my bait going in the water I was on. Michele pulled the second bait out not wanting to foul me. We had no idea of what would transpire over the next few hours. This Marlin Jumped like a pro athlete giving us a great show then went down. These fish are strong. We were using 30 class gear with a gimbaled belt, no harness. Got the Fish in for a picture and off we go again. Within a few minutes Michele pitches a bait and Marlin on. In the boat for a quick picture and set him off. This went on all day. I think it actually got better as the sun got higher. Michele and I had two doubles during the day. Non stop Marlin action. We had left the marina with 10 Macs purchased from the Bait boat which soon ran out. Ramon ran off the bank and quickly found a massive school of mackerel. Jigging with Sabiki rigs got us about 25 baits in 10 minutes. Back to Marlin fishing. More boats now and the run and gun is on full. Michele pitches a bait and gets bit immediately. This fish tail walks across the transom, goes down and around another boat close by then starts jumping on the other side of the other boat. The other Capt. Backs out hard and everyone is laughing and whooping it up. Shelly eventually got this fish to the leader. Long story short, Shelly and I hooked up 17 Marlin and caught 14 for the day. Absolutely unbelievable. If there were two additional anglers we would have doubled that. There was a boat on the bank with divers in the water and one of my fish ran right through them, CRAZY STUFF. The following day we could hardly straighten out our arms. If you go to Cabo and want a small private charter with a TOP SHELF Professional, call these guys, ask to have Ramon Captain the boat, he is the owner. Great guy, total professional.

    cabo fishing

    Hi Bryan,

I fished there a year ago in May for the IGFA world championship. We fished on different boats everyday over the course of a week. Pisces Fleet is okay, there are a bunch of crappy boats, but by far the best fleet with best crews and equipment are the Picante boats. They are more expensive but you will be happy.

I believe in December the fishing is really close to the beach so you don't need a huge battlewagon like a 58 Bert...

Good Luck. You will have a blast.

    Bill

    Hell Yaaaa.

Have a great time down there. The report is that the water is cooling and the bait balls are just showing up (a little late this year). Stripe Marlin numbers are increasing. You will be there in prime time early December. After the season you guys just put in you all deserve it

    Thanks!

Again, appreciate all of the suggestions guys! We have decided to go with "Dream Weaver." My father talked to the guy and he seems great. We are going to be there Dec 18-26, fishing 3 days with these guys and maybe a day or two with my buddies if they are down there the same time.

Hopefully we can put together a great report and some footage down the road!

    So Pumped!

    Cabo Report

Shelly and I got back from Cabo on November 21st. We went down a month earlier than last year’s epic trip due to my work schedule. The reports had been clear that the Striped Marlin bite was slow mainly due to water temperature. The water was still in the mid to upper 80s; a little warm for the stripes but the best time to go on vacation is whenever you can, so off we went. We fished again with Ramon Montano of “Dream Weaver Charters” aboard his 32 Blackfin. When we got there all I could see coming in the harbor were Mahi flags and an occasional single marlin flag here and there so we pushed our fishing out to the end of the week thinking that things could only get better. We talked to Ramon and his crew on Tuesday evening at the boat and they said that on that day a friend had found some feeders north of Golden Gate on the inside. Off we went at sun up. Bait was reportedly hard to get so we grabbed 20 in the harbor. About a 50 minute fly up the pacific side and we start to see a few birds here and there. Then Ramon hits the diesels and spins us towards a feeder. Live bait on, 2 lines in. As usual Shelly hooks up almost immediately. I don’t so while I watch her fight a big Marlin, jumping across the transom I continue to swim bait. Michele gets this one “almost” to leader and she jumps off. Good enough, we are psyched. Off we go towards another fish on top and this time I hook up a really nice Marlin. Shelly takes her bait in and grabs the video camera, how great is that. The entire fight, jumps and all is captured on HD vid. After that release the day got slow. We trolled Bally and artificials for a while and did not see much. Ramón has his Stabilizing Binoculars out and see some birds that must have been about 2 miles away. This guy is great, what an eye. Here we go near WOT, me and crew getting lines in and the boat is flying. We stop, toss out 2 swimmers and I hook up within 60 seconds. I quickly pass to Shelly and let her go to work while we try for a double. I got another bite but missed it so I grab the HD vid again. I captured some great shots of the Marlin jumping and tail walking and then this one goes down. It was fun taunting Shelly as she worked this thing for some time trying to leverage it up. After some time (on 30 class standup) she got the fish to leader for a quick photo and clean release. I got one more to the boat late in the day. Then Michele lost a long range jumper and that was it. All in all, a very good trip considering what all the other boats had been doing. Last year in mid December we got 14 to the boat in one day with Ramon. Next year we will book later, screw work. Note: Ramon placed 2nd this past October in the 2009 Bisbee's Black & Blue Marlin Tournament running there 48 Ocean named Extraction. Here are a few still pics. Of our fish
