Hey guys we will be updating you all on the bite up here in North Lake, Prince Edward Island on this thread for the rest of the season. The catch and release season just started with us releasing the first first of the year for P.E.I. last evening. The tuna were everywhere around the commercial herring boats and we pretty much had the pick of the litter! The tuna were feeding all around us for awhile before we decided to try our luck at bringing one of these giants boatside. We had no problem hooking up with a live mackeral downbait. After giving us a great battle the bluefin entered into his tight cirles and came to the surface beside the boat. The fight lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes. We estimated the weight to be 850 to 900 lbs. We took a quick measure in the water and it was approx 96" long. We are subject to circle hooks up here for catch and release and again the hook was in the hinge of the fish...perfect for a healthy release! I'll post some pictures of the fight and fish for your viewing.
Tight lines everyone!!! Capt. Jamie Bruce
