We had an excellent time during the Canada Tuna Cup last week with Team Mass Bay Guides!!! We placed second, and Troy's boat with team Rig Jig N' Reel from Ottawa Ontario placed fourth out of fourteen teams. We were all very fortunate to have every boat catch their max of three fish for the tournament. This tournament was a speed based tournament with points awarded for the fastest landed fish per boat. Points were awarded for a release first of all and you placed extra points on a descending order for the fastest fish to the boat. We had two first place days and one sixth place day putting us one point behind. But it was the teams that were the real winners here....every angler got fish!! This isn't a cash prize tournament....solely bragging rights and trophy's for the top three teams. A lot of laughs were shared and a bit of abuse was thrown around creating friends for a long time. Old Harbor Outfitters was our teams sponsor and we probably had...no we did have the best looking team in the tournament. The clothing and gear is premium, and everybody should make it a point to check their line of clothing and gear out!! Many thanks go out to MBG and OHO for generously donating so many items for the tuna cup banquet. I know one thing....everybody involved in that tournament now knows MBG and OHO!! Great job guys!! Team MBG stayed a while when Brian, Taylor,Ed,Frank and Tom came fishing with us for the next four days and they weren't disappointed. Hand feeding, fighting giants, hand feeding....you get the picture. A great time was had by all. I can't wait to see the video the boys will create this time with the premium footage they got!!
Fishing has been great again the last couple of days having released some 1000lb plus fish....man do I ever wish I had more tags to use on these beauties. Not a blemish to be found! But, the bigger picture says we will benefit more in the long run with catch and release so we can fight them another day!!! We have a charter from Houston, Texas with us now and are they ever hurting from the stand up. A couple can barely walk!!! Ask Fred (Crimson Tide Charters) and Joe from Monster fish how they felt? A massage was in order for Joe..ha ha. Well..better go and get ready for the morning.....clam chowder is in store for the guys!!!
The Bruce Bros. were awesome and am trying my hardest to get back up there on the 10th from NY. They gave 110% on every thing, and were hospitable the whole time we were with them. The food was GREAT, Oysters on the half shell, lobster rolls, grilled tuna, clam chowder (thanks Miss Bruce) the conversation was great, the mate (Blair) Bad Ass! and the scenery (1000 lb GIANTS eating over and over and over and , well you get the point...) was beyond belief! Texans are not your run of the mill well behaved charter customers and they didn't blink an eye on anything (well almost). When we had them call there friend at Colville Bay Oyster to order 10 Doz oysters (for 4 of us for the day) with only 20 min to get there we said "we will" he said "ok", we did. It is hard to get as excited about striper fishing in Montauk now as it was a week ago! I am looking for air fare from any and all airports around there to Halifax or Charlottetown on the 10th or 11th to just get in ONE more day fishing for these GIANTS! Thanks guys and I WILL see you again SOON!

I only wish we we could catch and release more than one fish per day, it would be good for the economy and not bad for the fish. JMHO
P.S. Jamie, I am just now getting the feeling back in my legs!
Just a quick update on the fishing. We're still at it!! Fishing has been very strong but has slowed a little bit. The hand feeding has slowed down but we expect it will be back in top shape once the weather settles down a bit. There has been a lot of bait and tuna around all week, with us getting our fish every day. We are still going on a great record with the fish and we were out today( blowing 25 to 30) and there was four boats fishing.....with seven hook ups between us total with two landed and released. Mine was approx 650 to 700. We lost one quickly on the kite and had another take the tracadie (stinger). Troy had two bites losing them both. It was rough and the weather played a large factor today. We will be at it for a while yet as long as the weather cooperates and the charters book. The fish are still all the way up to the west end of the island yet and have to pass down by us on their way out. Not to mention the Ridge and the Cape Breton shore. We have fished up to halloween in the past. We have had a terrific run this year and once things are over I will post a bunch of pics for you all. We have been fortunate to have a great bunch of fun anglers from all over the world!! Our thanks go out to them. Tight lines!!
Fished with Jamie and Troy this past weekend. Nothing short of amazing. The scenery, people, and fishing on PEI are world class. Jamie, Troy and their crews are a pleasure to share a boat with. Booked dates for next year before we were done the first day fishing. If you have the means go and experience it, you will not be disappointed. Thanks again Jamie and Troy, counting down till next year already!!
Hey guys!
Well it's been awhile since I've been on here. I meant to update you all a long time ago but have been busy with winter preparation and hockey with my boy. The boats have come home and are tucked away in the shops for another winter. It has been one big success this season for the Bluefin Tuna. We've been fortunate to have a lot of great charters from all over the world and have made a lot of great new friends. There has been a lot of photos taken, videos created, and we'll be getting them on our updated website in the near future hopefully.
To describe the fishing this past season it's hard to describe. It all started in mid July with the real fishing starting the day of July 18th. We were hand feeding giants beside the boat that evening and this continued for 51/2 to 6 weeks before letting up a bit. By letting up I mean no hand feeding beside the boat for approx a week and a half, but we still had our hookups every day, sometimes the maximum of four allowed per day. The hand feeding really is something special. To have that many giant fish taking bait off the surface as you toss bait in, is something spectacular. I would definitely recommend the late July/early August time to anybody. The weather is fantastic and the beach/golf days are great. The hand feeding began again in late August and continued until we stopped fishing in Oct. These are all prime times but it's hard to predict the weather as we found out with our Melton International team when they came up the first of Oct. They came right after the big storm that hit the east coast and it spooked the fish for a few days. Otherwise the fishing returned to normal in Oct with many great days. That's the risk you face the later you leave it. I don't suppose it's any different anywhere else you go.
We have a couple of sportsfishing tv shows to air sometime this fall/early new year and have a feature article with BlueWater Magazine coming out this week. It's all about tuna and Tim Simpson assures me the edition will be very special. Be sure to check out his "Readers Trip" for 2012.
We also have our good friends Mass Bay Guides organizing and advertising a trip up here during the week of Sept 9th -15th and including the 2012 Canada International Tuna Cup. Be sure to check it out. Team Mass Bay Guides placed second this year in the cup and had the fastest time of the tournament--4 minutes, in leadering a bluefin! Greg and the boys had a great time and we enjoyed having them and their friends with us. All top notch guys! Also I believe the tuna have been great lately in the Bay. Give Greg and the boys a call...I'm sure they'd love to hear from you.
It's a small world out there really when you think about it, all of us anglers have a lure to the ocean for big game fishing and you wouldn't believe the anglers we have had this year that have crossed paths with one another in places like Panama, Cabo, PV, the Keys and of course down the eastern seaboard of the U.S. There's quite a following and passion out there for Sportsfishing!!
I'll share a video with you all that our new friends from Texas made of the trip they had with us this fall. A great bunch of guys and we look forward to their return in early August 2012!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_M-bivFaqg This video will give you a perfect description of what you're in for!!
Be sure to say hello if your attending the 2012 Mass Bay Guides seminar in early March. It promises to be an exciting event with a lot of great gear being presented by the best in the fishing industry and some of the best charter operators will be present to answer any of your questions. A great time will be had by all!!!
Happy Halloween and Tight Lines to those who are still chasing tails!!
Jamie and Troy: Thanks for all your hospitality you guys and your families are great. If any of you SFC members are thinking of fishing with Bruce Brothers Charters you better get your plans in order early. The North Lake fishery is becoming so popular you may find it hard to get a reservation.
On Dec 13th The Sears Boys ( Bryan and Taylor ) will bee presenting videos and describing their Bruce Brothers and North Lake adventure at the Stellwagen Charter Boat Association meeting. The meeting will take place at the Marshfield Tavern off Rt 139 Marshfield MA at 7pm Dec 13th 2011.
