HELLO EVERYONE, I WAS WONDERING WHAT TYPE OF KNOTS EVRYONE IS USING WHEN TYING BRAID. WILL A BIMINI TWIST HOLD OR WILL IT SLIP? WHAT ABOUT A PALOMAR OR SURGEONS LOOP? THANKS ALOT, TIGHT LINES,J.
For fishing cod I have been using 80 lb. braid with 50' of 50 lb. mono. I like the double uni for connecting the braid to the leader and have tested it to 85% of the mono strength.
with spectra braid I have found that a 50 turn Bimini will hold in some brands but not all. What worked well the past few seasons and quick to tie for making a double line is to double over the line and tie either a spider hitch or a 8 to 12 turn uni in line. Make sure the knot is wet when drawn down. These 2 knots have been breaking between 90 to 120% depending on brand of braid. As far as termial knot palomar is it. Joining leader is best done with a wind on. Second choice would be uni to uni with the braid doubled over. It still comes down to the best knot is the one you tie best.

I tell ya I just started tying the (page ranking knot) PR knot for braid to mono aand it's pretty slick. Go on youtube and see how it's tied. I thought it was hard but after trying it a few times, it's not bad. I think once I do it for awhile it would be no problem tying on a bobbing boat.
Its the slimmest knot I've seen and when I pulled on it ,the line broke, not the knot.
You don't need a special bobbin. Get a cheap fly tieing bobbin and a thread spool. Fill the ends of the thread spool with splitshot and hotmelt them in. This is to add weight to the spool. Or if you know someone who can machine stuff, machine a brass spool on a lathe.
For braid to mono check out the slim beuaty. I have never had one (or heard of one) failing to a tuna. Last weekend when i got hung up on the bottem I cleated off the braid, and we had to start the motor to break the braid....it did not break at the knot! (80 pound braid to 80 pound mono)
