    bottom painter and canvas redo

I looked through some of the other threads but came up short, but does anyone know of or recommend a bottom painter and or a person who can redo canvas/nylon tops. I currently have a full enclosure setup with the nylon and plastic windows. Thanks!

I was thinking about bottom painting myself (novice) but also want it done right.

Hold on there with DIY bottom paint. Has it been painted before? There's a barrier coat that should go on before the 1st coat of bottom paint. If that already done, roll away

It was painted with only 1 coat 3 years ago poorly. The painting part seems easier, it's the prepping that I will have to do some research on.

Blanchette was the other name I was thinkg of if they are still in Biz in Fitchburg

Call the previous owner and ask him if he put on a barrier coat and what he paited with.

Stuff like Micro Extra will go over a lot of other paints re compatibility

I got so ticked off this year with rediculously high quotes I went under and preped..of course your mileage may vary but it doesnt't take a week to prep a 45 foot express..nuff said on that one..all it needed was a skuffing as we totally did her over two years ago in SC

Oh, I can see Just kidding. I see what you mean. She needs some tlc.

Tough to tell from the pic not to mention it's 3 yo paint. Is there a primer or barrier coat underneath or does it look like it was rolled right onto the gelcoat? Is it chipping or worn off smoothly? Can you get some close up pics?

I'll try to get some up close shots but for the most part there are some parts that are chipping off and other where it is coming off smoothly.

I'm also am getting ticked off at the high quotes I've been getting and this is why I will attempt to do it myself.

I guess this is one of the things I have to deal with while being a new boat owner. I just picked up a Golight for my rig and I have a long list of others! LOL!

Sounds like it needs sanding at a mimimum. Chipping might be an indication that there's a problem with the bond. There should be a barrier coat and primer under the bottom paint. If the hull wasn't prep'd right, the paint won't bond and will chip and flake. Or, you've been running up on the beach and mowing over packs of dogfish again

If your just going to roll bottom paint on, like Vin says, get it up on stands, tape it, then have it. If the new coat starts chipping and flaking off, then you'll know it's the bond. If it doesn't, rock on!

IMHO I'm no expert. Just my two cents.

My nine cents. There is some houseless looking guy in old saybrook. Stay away.LOL I was in old saybrook buger king last spring with a buddy. This guys come woundering in witha a 12 pack of bush light. He pops the top on one. Asks everyone if they want one. I asked what he had been painting he replied someones boat. My buddy chimes in did you get any on the boat.LOL I feel sorry for the boat. Im sure ray charles could have done better.
