Almost like the old days..Almost!
If you remember Flounder fishing back in the day in Boston Harbor; that many guys would call it "The Quincy Flounder Fleet"
The crowds would come up from NY, NJ, CT and even further south to go Flounder fishing in Boston Harbor and "Load Up" on tasty flounder close to shore and in a beautiful setting of islands and history..well it's pretty damn good again.
One of the best and truly entertaining guys to do this with is Peter Santini from fishing finatics in Everett who's knowledge and enthusiasm for all things fishing in Boston Harbor is well known.
We got out for a morning trip with Vinny on his sweet Hydra Sport, my buddy Rob and loaded up on Flounder on light tackle up to 4.8Lbs.
The big (thick)flounder are there and fun to catch on light tackle, mixed in with a few spiny skates we bagged around 30 and headed to J.J. Grimsbys for a sweet fish fry washed down with local Harpoon beers with Vinny's buddy the owner cooking us up a feast.
SOBO Rigs are the ticket..don't ask just use em!
We had a Gloucester Tuna legend with us for lunch; Austin Dorr at 81 who spent the day on the bank solo and "can still bring in the cute ladies" as you can see in the pics threw out some entertaining stories and opinions on fishing during chow time!
Great to be back in Boston, we had a blast thru the night. www.fishfinatic.com
Glad to see the flounder fishing is almost back to how it was, the way my dad tells me it was when he was a kid. Favorite fish to catch when not chasing tuna around......
That brings back memories from the late 70's and early 80's, we use to be part of the fleet that rented the wooden skiffs
and would come back in with full coolers.
I worked at Hurleys boat rental as a kid and remember the bus loads of guys that would come from NY and Jersey. They would load up on flounder and beer. It was great every saturday morning at around 6am there would be the sound of screaming 6hp Johnsons and Evinrudes warming up before the guys would head out. It was a great job for a kid I loved it.
