boat hauling- give me the skinny

Im getting my boat hauled on friday, and this will be the first time that the boat has been driven on the highway with canvas installed. My question is to those of you who have hardtop boats with inclosures.... whats the best way to tend to the plastics for travel. Should I roll them up? leave em down? Im thinking that leaving them down is the best way to do it but i"d rather hear it from someone with real world experience with this. Thanks Fred

I trailer all the time. I used to leave the side curtains down and secured but have also repaired them several times. They are always rolled up before the trailer hits the highway now. My experience is that it only takes once and it costs a buck to fix.

If you want to make sure it doesn't get ruined, take it off.

    Fred,

I helped with a buddies boat a few years ago. We took big beach towels and clamped them to the curtains with those hand spring clams fro Job Lot. The towels protected them from road crap and were soft so they didn't scratch. Also stiffened them up quite a bit so they weren't flapping all over the place. We did only go 15 miles or so.....

    How far you goin??

I'm with the above....there's got to be a few "holdover's" out there somewhere......

    Take it off

If you have to ask the question..... not trying to a wise ass here, then it is good enough reason to remove the canvas all together.

I have always removed mine when traveling over the hard surface. That is the best insurance policy that you can have.

No opportunity for damage that way.

I have learned this lesson the hard way. I trailer my Albemarle about 375 miles a season. Aside from the scratches and dirt the real damage comes form the dried out threads being stressed and torn. I spent a few hundrew having my curtains resewn due to towing stresses. Don't take the chance and yank the side and front curtains.
