Can it be done? With all the school bluefin around, has anyone tageted them at night? I have been talking about this with a few guys and we think it can be done. The dogfish seem to be the only draw back. I think if you find the fish either on the troll or busting or jigging just before dark and start chunking lightly you should be able to keep them around your boat at night. Anyone have any additional info on this? Am I nuts thinking this can be done?
Remember we are talking Bluefin tuna, not yellowfin or bigeye. We will be fishing north of Cape Cod, most likely Stellwagon or Wildcat. Come on guys what do you think?
What's up Dan, how are you my friend? Hell yes it can be done why not. We catch them all the time at night while party boat fishing. Just pick the right jig and get started. Break in that Stella already
Hey Glenn. I see Dom made it over here. We got quite a crowd growing in the Northeast board. Thats good to know about the party boats. I figure if you can find the fish in the afternoon or evening and stay with them and feed them something to keep them interested you should have no problem jigging them up at night.
Hey thanks for the info you gave me on the Stella. I can not wait to hear its drag scream this summer.
Are you guys fishing the Monster Shark tournament again this year? If so I'll keep an eye out for you guys.

We tried it 3 times last year SE of Chatham with no luck. Lots of blue sharks, one was a big sucker. We tried serving a few different entrees from sandeels to bluefish.
I have had very good luck at 3:30 to 4:30 am. (pitch black to first light on Stellwagen) Trolling lots of squid bars. I think they like the glow from the squids being left under the deck lights just before you whip them over. We usually get crushed right away. Never tried chunkin or livelining at night.
Fissues beat me to it, I was going to suggest trolling at night, it has worked really well for me not only around Block Island, but also up on the SWC and in the canyons. I think jigging in the lights would be the better choice over chunking, just my opinion.
The doggie problem is pretty severe, I had several 10 plus pound bluefish get eaten by them on the kite bait , both before sun up and especially after....
I assume you are going to run that boat back via water, as that tower looks like a no-can-do on a trailer. Sweet new boat, can't wait to see it out there prowlin..
Dom they disasembled the entire tower and said they would bring it up to me and put it all together for one last seatrial. But yes it is way to tall to be trailered. We got a nice slip for her in Marina Bay. Stellwagon and points beyond are only about an hours run. Should be a great season.
Fissues, that early morning bite seems to be the only troll bite on the NWC. I'm not even sure if I am going to troll anymore after 7am.

Dan kind of like the Nike ad ....JUST DO IT
If it works that good for us in the canyons it's gotta be good just a matter of finding the fish. I think the light definetly will help as the chunks probaly did and I don't know what or how bad chunking will call in the doggies but I suspect it could be nasty.
In any case I think it's way worth the try
As far as predawn troll ....that's where you will find me down south I'll never miss the predawn...magic time
I also hope to be able to do at least one overnighter for bluefin this year. A nice night on the wagon doesn't sound bad to me at all. Im thinking of some jigging/livelining bluefish or pogies/chunking. Should be able to attract some type of fish using some of these methods. Can't wait to get out there to actually post up a report to see what works the best.
