Despite the island suffering from a long stretch of inclement weather there have been enough breaks in the wind and rain for anglers to fish for and hour or two here and there, and the freshwater fishing continues to be excellent.

Large white perch can still be found in both Long Pond and Sesachacha Pond taking both spinners and 2-inch rubber grubs. Most are cruising the edges of submerged weed lines and changes in depth, but others can be found holding along cattails in three to four feet of water. In addition, landlocked stripers of up to 30 inches can still be found mixed in among them.

Crappie have begun to suspend in deeper water as the temperature falls, making them hard to coax into biting. However fish between one half to one pound can still be taken on slow moving jigs and flies that pass through their strike zone. Look for them in deep water with easy access to shallows and structure which they can move to during the later part of the day.

Heavier yellow perch are being found in many of the ponds as they pack on weight for the winter. They are holding tight to the bottom searching for food among the debris and weeds but can be caught with a little patience. Try working small silver spinners just above the bottom. These fish will also take live worms suspended just above or fished on the bottom.

Pickerel of all sizes continue to feed aggressively along the edges of the ponds, looking to pick off small fry and minnow sheltering among the cattails. Brightly colored spoons and spinners are providing the best action along with larger streamer flies run parallel to the shore. Be prepared to catch a lot of smaller fish between larger one of up to three pounds.
