I am Happy to say we have weathered the swells, the wind and the rain and have GREAT fishing to show for it! The Fishing right now is especially good from the boat, so if you have a boat go get out on it and if you have a friend with a boat, buy them some lures and gas and get out there. It is Mid July so we are working for Bass and Bonito, but the good news is that both are out there, all you have to do is work for them! As for the Bass there is a pocket of COLD water (55-60 degree) water sitting out East keeping the Fog low on the water and the Bass Active! The fun news with this water is that at the end of the West tide (water moving to the WEST or outgoing tide) this pocket of cold water is carrying all the way to 3 miles from the Beach. These bass fish are moving closer to the beach and will hopefully provides some great night time fishing along the Eastern Shore Line. Hopefully these Bass will also move into Great Point as we have an early morning East Tide… Could be worth everyone’s while to get up at 5 am and fish Great Point.
Speaking of Great Point, it is now Open from the beach so get out there. The sticker price will be paid for the first time you come over the dune and see the ocean. On top of it, not much compares to a morning fishing the Galls. My recommendation would be to get out there by 4:30 and spend the first hour looking for Bass along the bottom fishing a metal very slowly. Once the sun is high enough, fish hard for blues using your favorite plug… Also with the water so warm keep your eyes open for speedsters. I know it is very early, but I have a feeling that we have an interesting August awaiting us in regards to species. I would make sure to have on hand deadly dicks and other low profile metals.

Rumors of the first Bonito exist so I would make sure to get out to the Bonito Bar as soon as possible to test your luck, especially as the swells are now laying down from the most recent front.  Remember that it fishes on an EAST (Eastward moving or incoming) tide. Also please remember to fish it respectfully. Respect those who are already fishing and follow how other are already fishing.

Other Notes:

From the Beach, I would still highly recommend Smiths Point as well as Tom Nevers and Low Beach.

With a variety of fish out there ALWAYS be prepared for what MIGHT hit. Have the right lures at the ready and be ready to change out quickly.

Bottom Fishing right now is great and is an amazing way to add to your dinner plate and to break up a bluefish based day. The eastern shoreline has been producing great Fluke as well as Sea Bass. If you have never gone bottom fishing you will be amazed. It is fun!
