    BFT quota

I'd like to start a new thread and try to keep the yelling down and
perhaps have some civil feedback. I apolagize again for going
off the deep end on Gregs post.

The part of the BFT quota that bothers me the most is the purse seine.
Correct me if I read this wrong.
In 2010 3 permits get 18.6% (212 mt) of the quota. I think that is outrageous.
When there are people that want to charter a boat to catch a tuna
and they can't. What do you think?

Someone correct me if I am wrong here but there used to be 5 Major Purse Seiners that had Permits. Now there are 3 and of those 3 I heard that only maybe 1 is still outfitted to catch tuna and the other 2 have converted to catching herring? That does seem like an awfull lot of quota for only a couple boats and maybe less than that.

Do your homework first. Learn the history behind the allocation. I am in no way in favor of the purse seine boats or those who operate them, but you need to educate yourself prior to your quest...

Unreal, I make a suggestion to try and save you from making an ass of yourself (again) and you start right in with the same bullshit. Do the homework yourself-it's far more valuable if you learn it than if I or anyone else who's been there, done that tells you about it. Otherwise, you're wasting everyone's time (again). Your call...

    Mark,
Can you at least point me in the direction of the information so that I can learn a little bit about this particular issue being discussed. I would not even know where to start to increase my knowledge of what you are talking about and would very much like to read up on it. Thanks and if you want to PM that is fine.

There are still five permits but three of them are owned by the same person, the seiners can only catch a percentage of smaller (legal) fish so they are not really a threat to anyones existence right now, plus with the help of the white dove they did a lot of research to help fund this fishery, even though at first the GC was not set up by ICCAT it was an experimental quota and that is something that we can hang our hats on later if the powers to be ever try to pull any shenanigans...

you make hard to be nice

I'm going to try to be a gentlemen here, although you make it
very hard. I understand that the 3 permits have a quota and that
they have not used them in a couple of years. It doesn't mean
that some of there quota can't/shouldn't be taken from them.
If I'm wrong, please explain like a gentleman.
