It's definitely tough to tell, especially when big YFT haven't grown the "Allison" second dorsal and anal fins, but the difference of black-edged finlets on BET and general thicker tail-end half of fish helps ... the liver differences are key for positive ID, but the appearance of a tail "M"-shaped notch (which is also on BFT, mind you, but this fish had pecs too long for a BFT or, ahem, "Nantucket Bigeye") in the picture leads me to believe it's a yellowfin ... and again, a nice one

Looking hard at the posted pictures of both fish, the way the guys are holding them by the tail may create more of a notch than would be there laying naturally ... plus, especially in the second group of pictures, the finlets seem to have black edges and there looks like a blue band along the fish's to side ... second one looks bigeye to me, maybe the first one too

Mind you, this is all keyboard-captaining from a guy who chose the wrong week to have work done on his boat and is jealous to be missing the bite ... but Man, is there some tasty looking water +/- 30 mi SE of Hydrographers and Veatch right now, slowly moving up to the edge ... I'll be there for that one ...

Yellow fin. Those pecs are too long to be an eyeball plus the fish is not very round

I still say bigeye! Again same exact notches in the tail as the last three bigeye I've caught that were confirmed by looking at the liver. The pectoral fin happens to be pushed fush against the fish in that picture but I don't think its any longer than our Rowdy Dow fish. Here's one more picture from the Rowdy Dow bigeye. Note the notched tail. And this fish was confirmed by looking at the liver. Then look at the second picture of a yellowfin we had last year. The tail notches are less evident in that fish. I'm no expert either but that looks like an eyeball to me! Either way its a great fish and the crew of the SimonSez should be pretty damn proud of a first canyon run like that!
