***BOOK THE FALL STRIPER BLITZ NOW FOR SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER***
RARE EVENING CHARTER BRINGS TWO KEEPERS - Saturday evening, I had first-time clients Peter, Sheila, and Molly on board for a mixed trip: Bay Scenic Cruise, Bird Watching/Photography, Flounder Fishing, and Striped Bass Fishing…! Believe it or not, we pulled it off and had a great evening. We left at 4pm out of Duxbury and found great white egrets, osprey with young, common terns, lesser terns, European starlings, laughing gulls, herring gulls, great black-backed gulls, and several other species around the bay.
After cruising Blue Fish River, Powder Point Bridge, Gurnet Creek, Bug Light, Long Beach, and Clark’s Island, we set up for some flounder fishing in a tried and true spot. Not a bump. We try another spot. Zip. I was pulling anchor to head to a third spot when I saw about seventy terns and gulls working some bait. This is July, so I shrugged it off but kept an eye on them. Ten minutes later, they were still working the bait in about eight feet of water pretty aggressively. The winds were blowing about twenty knots out of the W/SW and I thought I saw sea spay thrown up into the air by a fish! That was enough. We motored across the bay at high speed and got a nice pounding in the chop. Then we pulled right into a small pod of top-water striped bass smashing baitfish! What a surprise…

We set up a couple of drifts and let the tide and wind carry us through the working fish in area about the size of your front yard. WHAM! Eight-year old Molly hooks into her first fish ever – and it is a 32″ keeper! Sheila hooks into a fish and then Peter. We go back upwind and drift through two more times and hook up on several smaller fish and then another keeper of the same size but fatter, hits the rubber crank bait. What a fight in the shallow water on light tackle and we all take turns bringing the fish in. Molly is thrilled as well as Mom and Dad and call it a great evening and head for home under a lovely sunset. You just never know…
