THE BAIT IS IN!!!
THE BAIT IS IN!!!
For the past couple of years I always wanted to try and catch my own spearing for fluking (Summer Flounder). One of my good friends Cary recently purchased a 25' seining net. What's that you say? It's a small mesh net with 2 poles on the end. 1 person grabs 1 side and another the other. You walk out make a loop and try to corral all the bait you can. Granted I haven't done this since I was 10 some 34 years ago lol...
So yeasterday I called Cary and said the bait is in Moriches lets go. We met at my house at 3 PM and worked the Bridge area. The wind was blowing and made it tough to spot the Spearing but after a few attempts we were able to net about 100 big Spearing not the mother load we were looking for but still alot of fun and it's not easy. Also while we were there around high slack water 4pm-ish the whole area from the bridge to my canal was jumping like crazy. Bunker splashing all over. I was going crazy but what could I do I was waist deep trying to net Spearing. After a while we were both tired I said lets go get the boat!!!
Cary bailed on me and I headed to the spot's where I saw the biggest concentrations. Tried my 1.5oz bluefrog white and green bucktail with a sand eel teaser but had no luck. By the time I got to my car drove over the bridge got undressed and got into my boat all the jumping stopped and that was it for me 6 to about 7:30 dark...
Alot of fun I will try it again
