    Backside of MV?

I'm thinking of doing a shark trip to the Claw tomorrow. I haven't been behind the Vineyard in over three weeks. Has anyone spotted any small BFT in the area lately? We may troll on our way to and from. We'll be on 68, "Optimism".

Back on the 13th we caught several small bluefin in the cold water down by the Bananna Shoal south of Nantucket.

    Slow, but gorgeous day

FAC seas, warm air and sunny skies made for a great day on the water yesterday. Fishing was slow, but with October right around the corner, I'll take it.

We waited at the dock for Pitts to steam down from Shrewsbury. Evidently he was delayed by an SUV fully engulfed in flames on the highway. Left GP at 0700 and steamed down to the Claw. 64.5F on the northern edge and 65.0 at the southern. Very s l o w drift. Two hours into the day, without a bite, a large mako cruises around the boat completely disinterested in any of our baits, including a pitch bait tossed in it's path. Oh well.

Picked up and moved south to the Fingers. Water temps 67.5-68.0. Shortly into the drift we started picking up some large blue dogs. Pretty fish, not beat up and put up a decent fight. Put Gary on his first shark ever so it made a good day. Called it at 1600 and headed to the barn.

We did not spot any tuna during our run, nor did we see any bait or birds working. Quite desolate.

Back at the dock we smelled electrical fire and learned a power pole went up in flames moments before our return. Day of fires I guess.
