Babylon/Jones to the Hudson - June 25-26
Just walked in the door. More small YFTs along the cooler water along the edges of the eddy around Block and Hudson. Water around 70, in 1000' plus. Stuffed 6 in the box and a bonus.
Hit the edge near the dip at sunrise. Spread was out for 30 min(?) and bang, fish on. After letting the fish clear the lines, I handed the rod over to Taylor, a 14 yo fishing machine on his first canyon trip and on his first tuna He made short work, pupming the fish to the back of the boat a quick check and it's a keeper. (We tried to talk him into doing the tuna heart thing on video. No go ) A couple more small yfts and things quieted down.Turned S and fished deep in the warm water and it paid off...the man in blue, a 200-250# blue marlin, baby! Tore off 2/3s off a 50W spool in seconds. Cap Andy screamed out, f**k the tackle, spin the boat, chase the fish....OK... Didn't get much vid on this one. It took off too fast. Lost a favorite NZ lure. We got the fish boat side with a clean release. Came back towards the canyon wall late wed afternoon. Hit the shelf below the 100 square, when someone mentioned a bait ball on the scope and whammo. The spread is swarmed with small yellows with 6 on and tuna everywhere. Great stuff! Setup to chunk on the ledge. Long, quiet nite. Beautiful starry nite. Finally, the squid are finally around in big #s with purpoise feeding in the lights for hours. Will have to check the underwater cam to see if it works. Still too early in the season for the chunking game. Picked up and got on the troll first light Thurs. It didn't take long with a few more yft's and another for the box. Then all quiet. It's a morning and late afternoon yft bite with marlin in the afternoon. Not a bad way to spend the day. Fishing is still slow. But, the weather was dynamite. Will post more after I look at the cams. -Steve

Same as a couple weeks ago. All smalls. Biggest was probably 40-50#s. We were thinking of heading over to Atlantis. But, the last SST image looked like the small warm "finger" was fizzling. Fishing is OK, not great. Still too early for nite chunking. It's non-exsistent.
