APRIL 3RD THE "AKULA" HAS A SPECIAL VISITOR

The report is gonna be short and sweet on this one guys. The weather continues to be great and the haddock bite is too. Plenty of porker bug eyes coming over the rails to fill the coolers. We did have one special visitor to the Akula this saturday. It wasn't returning guests Will, Mark, Joe, or Adam. But in fact Mr. Halibut. No he wasn't a full grown adult but just a little youngster. He was quickly photographed and released back to the deep. Very cool stuff!!! Tight Lines everyone.

I'm sure Captain Fred will post up some pics.

Hopefully it is a sign of things to come with the halibut. Maybe some more will be showing up over the next few weeks. Always wanted to catch one.....

Very cool guys! I'd love to target halibut in these waters one day- hopefully they can make a come back. It sounds like the Akula is off to a fine start!

    Thanks for the reports!

Are season on Halibut doesn't start till May1,can't wait,we caught a 100+lbs late last summer but I didn't have a tag so we let it go but I will have tags this year, one more way for the state of Maine to make money.

Nice Palawala.....geez I can't even spell your screen name, never mind pronounce it. I was going to chime in on this one about my buds up in Pembroke, ME. They catch halibut fairly regularly. Most in the 20-50 lb. range but everytime I start talking halibut everyone still thinks I'm drinking again! I beleive that they'll make a comeback soon.

I hope they start coming back. If we got that little guy, his parents must be lurking around somewhere. Its going to be a tough decision whether or not to kill a larger one if we do happen to hook one. Knowing how few are left around here would make me think twice. But I sure would love to hang one of those barn doors.

Now that's cool Fred! What's the legal size now, 41"? I guess that's after May 1 though...
