    Anyone here caught a Halibut?

like in Mass bay or the bank east to 'cat area? I'm rod and reel, I know the draggers get some. I would love to get one, I know they are rare now, but not sure how rare? Not looking for any spots or techniques.. but I will take 'em. Just seeing how likely it is. I started really getting in to ground fishing this year and can't keep anymore Cod, pollock, Haddock because the freezer is full enough for the winter.

    Thanks Chris

    Yes, Peter Santini

Santini caught a small Halibut outside Boston Harbor 4 years ago. At first it was assumed to be a nice Flounder but after full review it was determined it was an Atlantic Halibut, Pics don't lie, normally
Will grab the pics and post soon
Also several head boats have landed and posted a couple larger (over 100Lbs) Butts over the past 6 years in Mass/Gulf of Maine Bay.
I will say I had what I assumed was a big Butt twice in the past 10 years that never made it to the surface.
    Cheers

gives me some hope, every time I use bait on the bottom it attracts the dog pack except deep out east.

About the same size Halibut that Santini caught in the NE channel out of Boston Harbor.

Caught a small one on a Butterfly jig at Platt's two week's ago. First one ever. We've taken all of the traditional groundfishing gear off my boat and use my Avet tuna casting/jigging outfits with Butterflies for everything! We catch Haddock one right after the other. Those jigs are incredible. We've caught redfish, cunner, pollock, and cod that are no bigger than the jig. Even caught a herring which we used to catch a tuna.

The butterflies have become my go to as long as the drift is slow enough to hold bottom, I still bring the diamonds for when its windy. They are much better then jigging 20oz of lead all day.

I can't believe this thread has lasted this long without a "just for the halibut" joke
