wait for stable weather!

I was on a larger boat blown out of Block, Middle Ground by storm cells with thunder; lightening, waterspouts and 40+ knot micro bursts generating 6' square waves that had the top blown off by the wind.

We fortunately had Sirius radar; watched a line of storms come out of no where and got out of Dodge at 25 knots with the storm chasing us at 20+.

yesterday; all day. we tried to drop in at the tip of Block at 6 AM, got chased off the spot by 1 cell; eventually after continuing to try to go S and E to get away from the line ended up in the Dumping Grounds below 1000 fathoms below Block. Ran N and W up towards Middle Ground; had to troll E to stay away from the line; took a close look at Sirius weather at 2 and saw the line was now a solid mass the size of R.I. less than 20 miles below us.

I'm not a grizzled expert but my canyon trip count is in the 60-70 range and this pure explosion of storms out of an unstable front was a real eye opener. I'll take "scattered thunderstorms" entirely differently from this point on when 100 miles from the dock.

Wow that's some really scary stuff. Great job getting back around it! One thing I look at also is this bouyweather.com. U can place a virtually buoy any where on the ocean and get a approximate estimate of sea conditions, wind direction, wave height and rain.thunderstorms potential.

Here is the forecast for the tails for 8/17 Im still waiting for the afternoon update this was as of 06 zulu
