    anyone getting away this winter?

With all the my dick is bigger than yours, sandbox BS, split milk being cried over, bologna going on, I thought it might be about to time to change topic to something on the brighter side.

Anyone planned any exotic or non exotic get aways this winter? Fishing, hunting, whatever.

Myself, I am working on a few fishing trips and a hunting trip as we speak.

I wish everyone on the site a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. May 2012 bring good health, good cheer, and good fishing to all!

    John

Nothing planned as of yet. Might try to sneak down to my brothers place in Key West in March but that is still in the air. Most likely going to keep harassing the carp in the local river and if the lakes ever freeze I'll be chasing big bass and pike on the hard water.

Steelheading has been out of the world so far this winter! Was up there last weekend and we had non-stop action on the fly. Hoping to get back up to NY at least a few more times before things start to warm up again. Now that I've found that fishery I don't need to ice fish anymore! Also doing Islamorada in late march. Would love to get a tarpon. So far I have hooked but never successfully landed one.

Dan-Carp fishing is AWESOME! One of my favorite freshwater pasttimes. I grew just south of Boston and would Carp everyday after school till i graduated HS. Havent been in over 10 years and I think a revisit to the carp grounds is warranted now.

Keith-My buddies from college and Newport go up there a bunch and have always raved about the fishery. How long does it carry into winter?

Stew-would love to make but have prior engagements tomorrow. Jealuos of the Turks, heard nothing but great things about all the fisheries there. What do you think about a BBB things this year???

this seems like a more fun thread than the other...

we got back from Oahu about a week ago. we were supposed to fish, but we were greeted with 30 knot winds all week and 13 ft seas. the boat sat at the dock. did snorkel and fish from shore a bit. caught nothing, but i saw some nice big bonefish snorkeling and a bunch of blue and black jack's (besides the usual tropical fish and a bunch of turtles).

here was one turtle we stalked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zciP8nfFnw

in january, we will be headed back to hawaii, except this time we are going to kona. hopefully we will be able to fish there. you can rent a boat all day there for $400 and it is possible to catch pelagics 3 miles from the dock.

in february, we will be headed to FL to go fish (most likely the keys) and also hit up the miami boat show. i may do a little boat shopping.

these trips are the only way i can survive living up here in the cold.

Miami Boat Show Big Game room is a great time. Loved the show when I lived in Florida.

Looks like I am going go to Texas boar hunting in February, New Mexico trout fishing late march/early april, and Bahamas in April.

    steelies

The bite lasts all winter but it can get slow at times with the cold water. They had a lake effect blizzard on Saturday and it was on fire, we landed 35 between 3 guys and hooked 80+. Next day it was cold and the sun was out and we landed only 9. My buddy up there today said it was really slow this morning. Best bet is to try to get up there when there's a warming trend or a rise in the water flow. If you're interested John I can let you know next time I head up. For a first time trip, it helps to be up there with someone who's fished it before.

It's not canyon fishing, but its a lot of fun. Beats the hell out of ice fishing!

    Skiing for me

No fishing for me. The family is heading back out to my buddy's place in Utah for some steep
and deep powder over February Vacation.

This is much more fun than the other train wreck of a thread!!! We are a pretty lucky collection
of people here. We get to live and play in some unbeleivable places. Time to remember exactly
    how blessed we are.

Merry Christmas to all!! Tight Lines and Safe Returns in 2012!!

    Mike
