Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
Akula vs. Oceanographer Aug 5th & 6th
On Friday morning we geared up and meet up with Craig and Trevor who had come over from England to experience fishing the deep blue waters to the south. The original plan was to head to Hydro with several other boats, but as I got halfway through vineyard sound I had a strange preminition and set the auto pilot an additional 20 degrees to the east. I sent Danny (seahabbit) a text message that said "f*ck it, im going to oceanographer" not knowing if he would follow suit or stick with the original plan. The first 120 miles showed nothing but cold low 60 degree water, we continued right to the tip of the canyon before getting lines in.
Within 15 minutes we had our first fish on, and a mid 40 lb yellow came to the boat. We pulled yellowfin into the boat about every half hour untill the sun set, and just before we were in total darkness a small white Marlin harrased our spread untill finally impaling himself on the shotgun bally. Craig worked him to the boat in the dark and we wressled the overly irratated fish into the cockpit for a quick picture and sent him back home.'
we settled in for the night, but it proved to be uneventfull aside from a tiny 24" mako and a 5' blus shark.
Back on the troll in the morning we found a wild 9 degree temp break over a span of two miles, we spend the rest of the morning and into the afternoon working the same patch of water, constantly hooking fish after fish. At no point did 20 minutes pass without rods going down. Two 6 rod knockdowns kept us on our A game, and we steadily replaced all the weight we burned in fuel with qualitly yellowfin to 55 lbs. One more Marlin came into the spread and wrapped himself up in a spreader bar for a minute, but didnt seem to happy with the experience and never came back
With 30 minutes left before I had to get on the throttles and head back home, we got another 3 rod knockdown, the first two were yellowfin and as the third came to leader, we could see the long silver body coming towards the boat. Hoop and John both called out Marlin, but as he came to the surface it was evident that there was no bill, and a nasty set of teeth, WAHOO!!! Ive never im my life seen Hoop move so fast to grab a gaff! John followed up with a second gaff and slid the elusive Northeast Wahoo into the cockpit. As if The trip hadnt been good enough as is, this fish put the icing on the cake. We hammered the area for another half hour trying to find another hoo, but he yellowfin continued to pile on everything on spread. With the clock ticking, we pulled lines in and headed for the barn.
My camera got wet on the trip, so ill have to wait for some pics to get emailed to me to post up.
If anyone has Interest in a canyon charter, we still have several dates left, including one shared trip, dont be bashfull, time to get out there and do it!

Great job fellas. Looks like it was pretty calm. Nothing better than threading the weather window and having a bang up trip.

I can see it's dangerous for you, but if the government trusts me, maybe you could.
Ahh, the elusive NE Short Billed Striped Marlin.
Heck of a trip, thanks for sharing the story and pictures!
