BOSTON- A Coast Guard air crew hoisted an injured crewmember from a Marshall Island's-flagged container ship about 300 miles southeast of Nantucket, Mass., at about 1 p.m., today.

Around 10 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a call a requesting medevac from the MSC Bali for a crewmember who had suffered a head injury while working on the ship's water evaporator.

An air crew launched from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and arrived on scene to hoist the 25-year old, Phillipino patient around 1:15 p.m.

The patient is scheduled to be taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for further medical treatment.

The ship was transiting from Philadelphia, Pa., to Antwerpen, Belgium, to off load its cargo.

"The international mariners were traveling pretty far from shore when the accident occurred," said Lt. Pat Petrarca, command duty officer at the Coast Guard command center in Boston. "We were glad to be able help coordinate the such a long-distance rescue."
