9/6 - skunked on the south shelf

Ran a long day trip which took us as far south as 40 10/70 35 in a hunt for a shelf bite. As seems to have been the case for most everyone the pelagics, mahi excepted, were missing.

We targetted the eastern of the 2 fingers of warm water pushing up from west atlantis and put in at 40 30/70 32 on a 68-70 degree break with lots of skipping little bait and birds. No fish other than a trio of mahi under a long lost pot.

We trolled south and more south for hours, from green to green blue to blue water, picking on a visible 2 degree green blue -> blue break for hours. We went into 75-76 degree clear blue water; fished over whales, porpoise, mola and frigate mackerel with nothing else showing.

Yesterday was fishing in a desert; its going to be very hard to garner up the will for another shelf day trip after this one...

Wondering if there's a correlation between your desert and the ghost town called Stellwagen bank.

Tons of sharks. Very little charlie. Warm warm water.

Similar story at the Mudhole yesterday. 25-30 sharpies targetting giants in the south end. Some bait showers here and there which looked like FA's. Good dogfish bite though if you put a bait down

Ugh... not what I wanted to hear. Planning on heading out Thursday to the BE Buoy, fishing the eastern edge and working south. Maybe I'll check out the NWC instead.

Damn! Worst fears realized. That great looking finger that tortured everyone with crap fishing before the storm still sucks. Going to force everyone to put some time in to figure out a plan. The obvious is clearly obscure. Be interesting to see how Damon does at Hydro.

Well that's not very good news.
But it is still early after the blow. I'm hoping things change by the weekend. Looks like overnighter potential for Sat/Sun.

Had a great day playing with big bluefish (not bluefin...) on lite spinners with the kids until the tide turned. I then headed out to scout Nomans in the flat calm water.

A little voice in my head kept saying, "You know, in this flat calm glass, you can be in good peligic water in 90 minutes. Go for it!!"

Glad I told the little voice to go away and stop torturing me...

Thanks for the report, no matter how painful...

    Mike
