Took my buddy Denis, his son and 3 nephews out for a day of sharking today. We set up at the Star in 68* water. Within 30 mins, we had a mako in the slick and he was eating. I hooked the fish and passed the rod to the rookie. He fought it for about 30 mins but had to pass it off to his older cousin. Ten mins later we had the shark boatside and made the decision to take him home. Fish was secured with a flying gaff and tail rope and we put lines back in. But that would be it for the sharks. No more joy, not even a blue dog. At noon we decided to pull the plug and go on the troll. I ran back to yesterday's numbers just east of the Dump. There's a lot of life there with plenty of mahis under the pots and a good SBFT bite. We got a few mahis and bluefin and another tuna cherry was popped. When leadering this fish we noticed a school of tunas about 30' under him. More mahi action including a big bull that came unglued just behind the boat. Another short ride home and life's good again!
Will try to post some pics tomorrow when I get caught up.
