fished the Lanes below the Vineyard today; slow ride out.
We dropped into 70 degree water which warmed to 74+. Between the Lanes we found small keeper yellowfin and some large mahi free swimming away from structure. We released the 30-31" yellowfin which turned out to be good karma.
While everyone else went south we ducked back nprtherly, worked with another boat and turned in a stellar day trip to blue water.
We ended up keeping a 40 pound yellow and 2 30 pounders; as well as 3 mahi in the 15 pound range. we released a half dozen yellows in the 30"/20# range and had another half dozen knockdowns. Add in 3 good mahi and a couple others we released and it was a pretty darned good day. Perhaps releasing the 1st 3 "keepers" was good karma?
Best part was lines up at 2:20; back to the harbor at 4:40.
Of note - a wahoo showed itself but missed; easily got 8' of air. One of the 30 pound yellows had a 12-14" perfect and fresh baby bonito in its belly. It had been eaten so recently it still had its bars and stripes all lit up.
