Makes you wonder how productive it really can be right now. Have the fish really migrated up from the southern gulfstream/bahamas yet? Surprised no BFT from any reports. There is a second eddy which will push in after this one, maybe that will bring up some migrating fish in larger numbers.

One thing is for sure. No one will be getting out there for the next 5 to 7 days.

I'm heading down tomorrow. My boat isn't in the water yet but we've been filling gas cans and loading up my buddy's 21 foot Whaler all afternoon. Unsinkable hull so we should be all set and his '94 Johnson Ocean Pro has yet to fail us. I'm guessing that breeze out of the north will make the ride out pretty smooth with a following sea. No outriggers so we'll only be running a 3 line spread, but I've got high hopes.

Keith J without ouriggers you could still double or tripple up your spread with a couple of these. They work great on the lakes for Salmon can't see why they wouldn't work for spreader bars for the 1000# marlins that I heard from a guy who heard from another guy who heard from an Intercontinental Airline Pilot who saw one out there when he flew to Europe last week

Also, keep in mind that the Gas Barge may not be on station this early in the year so strap some extra jerry cans near the portable Coleman stove and you should be good to go.

    good thinking!

Dude, that is a really good call! I just ordered two of those planers for next day delivery so we should be set for our trip to the edge tomorrow. Now my issue is that I need a few more set ups to complete the spread...

I have a 2006 Shimano Baitrunner 4500 which I'm thinking I'll spool up with 40 lb power pro tonight. That should give me the capacity to deal with most of the pelagics out there, but I could still use a couple more set ups. Anyone on the forum looking to unload any trolling outfits? Would prefer heavily used Shakespeare brand to match the set ups that I alreadys have...

Also any recommendations on lures? I've always been a fan of the Williamson line of products...

I am not criticising or second guessing but did you spend any time in the blended water before pushing on SE?
yes, didn't see much life and we had reports of a few long liners were catching fish in the deep. We also heard of a few fish near the dip. It was pretty snotty to say the least. was blowing 30+ off the edge and worse the further east we went. There has to be fish but the warm water covers a huge area and the fish could be still working there way north. Other boats had similar results on Sunday and a white was released Friday or Sat. Will give it another shot after the w/e if the wind dies down.
