Thumbs up 7-6, 7-7 Offshore West Atlantis

Just want give quick report on the trip I took with friends(Jay, Steve, Andy, Frank, John, George and myself) on the Carly II out of New London. Got out to west corner of Atlantis at about 12:30 pm. Lines in and after about .5 hrs. Had our first yellow in the boat. Managed to get 2 more yellows and a couple of real nice Mahis before dark. Set up for the night at about 9:30 and got a yellow an hour after setting up. Thought it was gonna a busy night, but, not a damn thing after the lone yellow. Started to set lines out for the troll at 4:30 am. Got a yellow about an hr. later. Another hour goes by and then it happens, 4 lines go off and we go 3 for 4! About another hour 6 lines go off!! We go 4 for 6 and the fish that I was reeling in blew up the drag on the Penn 30 that I was using!! I thumbed the spool so I wouldn't lose the $150 of braid while the other 3 fish were gaffed in and John managed to tie on a barrel swivel onto my line and splice it onto a working 50. I fought the fish the rest of the way in!!! That teamwork at its best!!

Final tally: 13 yellow from 30 to 60 lbs. and five nice mahi
Great trip in my book, all the way around!!! Thanks to everyone, especially Jay for the invite!!!

    nice pics, looks fun.
Q though, what does one do with 13 tuna looking to be 30-60# each, 390-780# total?

There was seven of us and its not all that hard to find someone to take some fresh as fresh gets tuna off your hands. Actually pretty damned easy.

canyon trips are all solid B's - the troll bite is superb, except for the odd mahi or yellowfin the nite bite is slow.

Add in a 5-8 runoff night and we move from B-range into A range

I don't doubt that, but where do you store that many fish on the boat? Does it have a huge hold, or did you have a bunch of bags? That's a lot of meat to keep iced down.

Nice work on the trip, looks like a blast!

Oh, believe me, we stuffed fish in all sorts of spots! 1000 lbs of ice at Montauk is key too.
