7-14 Success in the bottom of the Ninth

To say I am tired right now would be a huge understatement so I will post the full report later as I have to find some way of going to work now after being up for over 24 hrs. straight and getting 7 hours sleep before having to go to work again.

    Bare facts:

    BFT
    CC Bay late afternoon
Fish were pushing on top and finicky as hell but persistence pays off
Lure: 12" Sluggo rigged weightless w/Excalibur offset bass-style hook (this damn hook continues to amaze me)
    Length: 68" CFL
    Girth: 46 1/8"
Weight: 165 (gutted at home some time later on a certified scale for those non-believers in the crowd)
TTD (time to deck): 15 min. flat timed
    Rod: OTI Tuna Sniper 8'6"
Reel: Shimano Saragosa 18000 w/stock drag NO PROBLEM but i may need to replace them now......

    Ed,
I was a non-believer in the 15 min. fight debate until yesterday. My buddie Derrick looked at the clock as soon as I hooked the fish which was 4:15 and then once we had it at the gunnel I told him to quickly check the clock again and it was 4:30 pm. It was just amazing how powerful that rod is and with a harness I could just winch the fish in like nobodies business. It took some getting used to fighting the fish with 20-25 lbs. of drag as it kind of pulled me around the boat a bit. I learned a ton yesterday with this fish.

    Inconceivable

    Mike,

Are you sure you caught that fish on a spinning rod ? you must have used a 130 out of the corner or a harpoon?? Fish like that cant be landed on that gear?? Hahahah

Just kidding , that was for the benefit of some of the critics.

    Nice work and true Sportfishing

    Nice fish!!!

How do you like that new OTI Tuna Sniper rod? I see you've got a Saragosa on it as well. Performing to your expectations?

Better than expected and landing it in 15 min. is proof of the setup. I do need to modify the gimbal setup I have though as it was giving me fits. The shoulder harness and rod clamp from Alloy Toy worked flawlessly though.
