Headed out of Portsmouth at 5:30 for the bank... upon getting to the NWC we found the bass like everyone else... we decided that we needed to get away from them if we wanted to actually do anything with the BFT. Ran down to the middle of the bank and started trolling a few miles east of the edge... we worked our way SW... The farther we got the better it looked (the more fish we saw) it was nice to see such a spread of year classes (we saw what appeared to be 50",60" and a few larger ones too.) We had a few nice works (not sure why this one didn’t bite.) We trolled as far as (5 miles from the SWC). At 12:00 we called it a day and headed up the western edge of the bank on the way home… we saw a few jumpers but nothing too exciting… then we hit the east side of the bank (4-5 miles from the NWC) and fish were just everywhere!!! So we dropped the spread out again and tried for another hour. There was about 10 boats there with us… somewhere trolling, popping, jigging and live baiting… no one could do a thing with these fish… they were up hard and just could be put down… we had then literally rolling 5’ under the boat and out in the spread…
Over the course of the day we tried a lot of different thing! X-rap (different color and different depths), sluggos (different color, depths and presentations… we even tried different speeds), micro spreader bars. Nothing seemed to work! Not sure why but it seems like we weren’t the only ones...
