    7/10 - You don't know if you don't go

    and now I know.

On the plus side my Talmudic interpretation of the various forecast models was right on. A little blowy and rainy in the AM, wind died at 7, big swell and the front was S and E of us.a Pull the plug at 3 to beat the wind home.

On the now I know side - the annual bluefish convention below MV is in full force. You want slammers; I can give you numbers.

No tuna or pelagics for us; the water is typical early July hot mud - on the way out the Claw was 71, the Fingers and Dump 73 and the Lanes hotter. By PM it was a flat 76 degrees from the Lanes above the Claw.

There was bait smell and birds in the Fingers and scattered slicks and birds down through the Dump into the Lanes. The flyers above the lanes were barren, however every clump of rockweed out there had a school of baitfish on it. We marked balls of bait.

The table is set; the dinner guests are still a couple weeks away.

On the cool side; we got the Dump porpoise show to prepare Russ for Disney world. We saw 2 hammerheads, something I have never seen above the canyons. Matt and Russ also saw another unidentified shark.

12 hr's/100 gallons. Well worth it. You don't know if you don't go....

I have more respect for the guy that creates the bite than I do for the guy that only chases the existing bite. I'm sure your efforts will be rewarded in the near future. Good job Larry.

    Thanks.

The water was mud green in the fingers; no clarity; it was clearer green at the bottom of the dump and in the top lane which was as far as I went. There might have been a hint of blue in it, but it was nothing to write home about.

My logs show that I typically can find yellowfin or albacore on the 50 fathom line ~ 7/17 -> 7/20 or clean up with bluefin in 30 fathoms ~ 7/15 but its always hit or miss before then above 80 fathoms..

    Great Report

    Larry,

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of making a run to the dump later this week, but it looks like we need to wait a few more days.

    Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the update LB. It would seem that if the reports I am getting from that area are valid then it is really a day to day bite that if you are there when they are eatin' then you will score but if they are in one of thier non-eatin' moods then you find what you found. Still a good trip to a really cool area and it won't be long before all those fish go stark ravin' mad.......I always liked that saying!
