    6/18 - lights out bite

We tag teamed out way across 30 miles of unproductive water playing aquatic leapfrog with Ripdog looking for life 4-6 miles at a time. After an unproductive morning of watching lazy happy whales sleeping, we skipped past Ripdog, pulled up on some life and watched him make a 2 mile sprint outwards towards some whales I was working towards.

Got the call "arrggh - we just bent and outrigger and lost cotton candy" followed by a "COME TO ME" command.

We made it about halfway there; trolling past some whales when we got whacked on a ballyhoo, but didn't stay tight. Still coming we trolled into more whale water and suddenly had a wolf pack of hungry fish all over everything in the spread. We had 5 or 6 hits of everything in the spread; Jackson and Clint working the rigs like madman when....

oh my god...I hate to admit it...but......the Good n Plenty bar I had made fun of went off with a fish at the end. The visual of the crash and bar dissapearing is rough but pretty cool.

Clint got belted in and w/ flat calm seas we had a nice little half our tussle with a well behaved 71.283" tuna which came to the boat like a puppy, Jackson leadering it as if it were on a leash. A quick 2 minute drag, stop the boat to pop the hook out and we got to watch it sink off for 10', then turn on its nose and swim down to the depths, tracked by a green slash on my fish finder going down, down to sulk at 200'.

Meanwhile Ripdog was doubled up next to us; during our fight we had vectored in another boat we were also tag teaming with and had them hooked up in no time also. With our loose communications protocol on the radio, ie we were having fun, in no time the Indian's appeared from all points on the compass; another 10-15 boats joining the party.

The bite was pretty short, maybe an hour, but almost everyone on scene was hooked up at least once.

We heard you guys on the radio and thought about making the long run ourselves but instead headed north. Bad move on our part, I'm glad that the fishing is heating up in the normal spots though as the inshore spots were dead for us all weekend. We covered 145 nautical miles from Chatham Inlet, to the SEC to the BC and never saw a tuna. Congrats guys, sometimes it pays to make the long run away from the fleet.
