Bite me
6/14 Peaked Hill/Golf Ball
Okay so we left a little late this morning because i slept through 3 alarms!!! We were still underway at 4 am and hit Peaked Hill with lines in the water a little before 7. Fog was absolutly awful on the way out and my friend and captain John was not to happy about fishing in the fog but i kept his fire burning. Got to Peaked Hill no birds, no whales, no marks on the FF, nothing, ghost town. Troll for maybe 30-45 minutes and say F this lets move a little further SE to where we were a couple of weeks ago. Get to the new spot and again no visible signs of life.....but then we start to mark BIG BLOBS on the FF so we say lets put em out and give it a half hour or so. John spots a few hundred birds dive bombing the water about a hundred yards away out of the fog so we head that way and when we get there 3 rods go off and my heart jumps for just a second then i realize....bass. Ok so we bring in 3 bass easily in the 25# class. In the box they go. Spread goes back out and we start pounding the area around the birds HARD....a couple weeks ago if you wanted to get bit by tuna you HAD to troll through the bass so we are determined. John puts us in position and my eyes are locked in one the spread (Spread consisted of: Right Long: Black splash bar, Right Short: Trick or Treat Splash Bar, Left Long: Green Brown Splash Bar w/ Rainbow Stinger Left Short: Red Iguana, off the corner this sandeel color with blue dots.) As i'm patiently watching the spread i see this massive boil on the black splash bar so instinctivly i do what i hear the Sears boys talk about so much and immediatly crank a couple times to tease him back and i didn't get two cranks on the reel when i see this fish totally airborne and come crashing down from above on the bar!! One of the most amazing things i've ever seen hands down! Now the long and short of it about 30-45 minutes to the boat and then since this was our first ever release it was a little tricky trying to figure out how to handle the fish we put a tape on him only to measure 71 inches so we swam him for a while and then off he went! what an experience it is to catch these big fish! Last year i got skunked this year i have gotten 2 big fish for 2 trips and am batting a thousand. Can't wait to get out there again and try for a slot fish or a big one. good luck to those who are going out tommorrow.

great report!
I'll be out before dawn on Friday morning leaving from Sesuit. Can't decide if we should start at the SWC or PHB / Golf Ball but will probably see how we feel when we arrive.
Anyone else going? (Lucy Maria on 68)

Hey Mark - I know the Shannon. Nice boat!
You going Friday or earlier? Let's definitely cooperate if it's Friday. Maybe we can split up and see what's what. I'm going to try to be steaming out at 0300.
We were out last Tuesday and the huge school of stripers at the race mentioned above was there in force - looks like they are still holding.

Thank you...I am planning on leaving the dock around 0400 or 0430. I am on board with doing a buddy boat search trip. You will have another boat leaving just after you, Quints Revenge. He is also out of Sesuit. He will be on 68 or 69.
I am planning on rounding the corner and running towards Nauset Inlet. I will give you a shout when I get near P-Town.
I am also going to be looking for some of them big bass also. I was told they were blasting all over the top a few days ago.......Weather still looks good...West 5-10 seas 1-2....

Sounds like a plan. I've seen Quint's Revenge in the harbor and I'll hail him up as well (and I think I know one other boat that will be out). I think I will probably go around the back as well at least as far as the golf ball, so I may have some intel for you before you get there.
Weather's looking good! (knocking wood)

no tuna but amazing striper fishing
Steamed out of sesuit at 2:45am, on the SWC at first light just like you're supposed to be (I think we were actually there first by about 500 yards)... only to find zero life. No bait, no birds, nothing. Beautiful false dawn & sunrise, but about as unfishy as it gets. Trolled bars around for an hour anyways and started heading around the back to PHB, golf balls, and further.
Turned around at Nauset beach without seeing anything more than a lone whale and a few birds, but on the way back up the radar lit up a huge flock near the shore. It was a massive school of stripers and we ended up putting the tuna gear away and fishing with light tackle on the top water. It was easily the best striper fishing we've ever experienced - lights out and even though a dozen other boats joined, the school was so big and spread out that there was plenty of room without crowding. We were even catching up a couple hundred yards away from the main action. Average was about 34", biggest was 41". We kept 3 for the table and the rest were released healthy.
