    52 inch, 135lb SEC

Hit the SEC this morning and spotted whales and some decent marks. Started Jigging and had a slow start. An hour later slam, doubled up on Tuna on spinning rods with the center console ballet. I thought we were doing good until one line cut the other and the other fish pulls the hook, what a mess.

Slow again and an hour later bam, Fish on again, little bit of a fight and snap...main line breaks when fish starts death circle. Get rigged back up and bam, fish on again, this time down deep and this fish is moving, starts a nice run and pulled hook.

Getting absolutely sick of gear failures/pulled hooks...whatever lets troll. 1 hour trolling deep divers, slammed fish taking off at blistering speed, bent hook, comes off again.

Finally at the end of the day my buddy hooks up and thinks its just another nice sized striper like the ones we were catching all day. reels the fish right to the boat. Fish goes under the boat I reach for the leader and guide the fish out from under it....Holy $%#^! Tuna!! get the gaff/harpoon/my gloves what ever give me something to grab this thing. Theres a 52inch fish looking me in the face sideways on the surface after a 30 second battle to the boat. Of course the Fish runs,,,two minutes get it back up on the surface, hit it with the harpoon anyway to seal the deal...52inch fish 135lbs on a Shimano Saragosa to the boat in 2 minutes....insane

I Love the Blood....also there was some 26 foot CC blue hull Donzi next to me like 30 feet away watching the whole ordeal. Anyone know who that is?

    1. Love the bloody deck shots. nothing like a few stuck tuna to make us all look like axe murderers!
    2. 135#? Bluefin are a lot heavier/length than yellowfin I guess.. My eye would say 80lb
    3. What is with everyone darting fish this size? You look like a big strong dude, one gaff in the head and done... save the darts for the monsters....

Hung the fish on my drag scale from the T-top for the weight.
The simple fact that we fish with 65lb and 80 lb leaders (light), and that the fish was obviously green as anything (2minutes to the boat), and the fact that we already lost six fish prior, I was not about to hang over the side of that boat with a gaff and attempt to get that fish and break that damn leader...better to be on the overkill side sometimes.

Just to keep things in perspective, a 52" bluefin will typically push the scales to about 83
    lbs.

Sounds like you guys had a great day.

I dont know, I have one of those shimano fish scales up to 150lb I think that is pretty accurate. Read 135 hanging there and thats without guts/internals/stomach full of sandeels. This fish was a butterball. It may be off.
