    5/31 - JSeas - 1000 # of fish

we easily hit the grander's worth of fish yesterday trolling East of Cape Cod on the JSeas.

850 of those pounds were striped bass in 20-30 pound increments and the last 150 pounds or so was a mean and lean 60-something tuna accurately measured with a laser and micrometer to be sure.

The fish ate a Provincetown special and was brought to the boat in 32.7 minutes using 21.8 pounds of drag. On the initial run it took 452 yards of line, necessitating a bow chase by Captain Jim to run it down for the poor angler.

We also had a 1 cast/1 hookup ratio to breaking tuna using a Big Mouth Salty's Popper, a Hook Up Fin Nor rod and a venerable Penn 950.

Details aside - what an absolutely gorgeous May afternoon on the water.

And what fun those stripers were...... um yeah. It was almost like trolling in the canyons when 5 rods would go down everytime we passed a school. Nice work boys

    Fun day with Skipjack crew

It was definetly a great day. Many thanks to the crew of the SkipJack (Backman and company). They jumped on the JSeas and made it happen.

Here is a picture of the fish. Hopefully many more fun days to come this summer.

    Good luck to all!

More technical minutiae for the detail oriented as precision is very important in the art of catching sickle tailed devils.

We trolled a 4 bar/1 ballyhoo spread with the 11" bars's doing a more effective job on bass than the 13" bars. Black Power long, Stuffed Glow long on the other side, Lady's Favorite inside of Black and Garden of Earthy Delights inside of Stuffed Glow. (Note these are all custom colored bar's I won't market or sell you).

As previously mentioned a P-town special was in the middle.

After Garden of Earthly delights caught its 20th bass we pulled that out and replaced it with a deep P-Town special inside the plastic triangle. A bass tasted the deep special without enough force to pop the rubber and as it was tugging away on that meat the other P-town special went off with gusto with a sickle tailed devil. Its rubber popped with a bang and we were off to the races.

    Got it?
