2 BFT for the Hooked Up
We had a epic trip this past friday afternoon and saturday. Arrived friday afternoon at 4pm with the plan to fish the tide change at 6.30 stay the night and be ready for first light. I wanted to stay away from the fleet so we looked around and found some bait and set up right over it. Picked up some nice whiting and put them right to work. We just were putting on the balloon on the 2nd bait when it went off. An hour later we boated a nice 82 inch fish, after fumbling around with unassembled harpoons and alike. Fished the night with no bites except when at 2am a bait fish got ripped off a bait rod on the retrieve, looked at the screen to see 3 tuna marks. We had 3 fresh live bait out on balloons at the time and a nice bluefish on the kite. We marked fish all night but no takers. Saturday morning tide change came and went looking very fishy with the occasional marks on the sounder, no bites. Around noon the rod set at 75' goes off hard. This time we are on our game and in 15 minutes we tail rope an nice 87" fish. Stayed and fished the afternoon tide change but by then wind had shifted and the bait and tuna shifted also. Took the fish to Glouster on our way home. Total weight was 510lbs dressed. Not a bad day for only going 19 miles from the dock. I love the canyon trips but its nice to do it close to home.
