    Wrightsville beach jigging 3/23

Well Tony, Mike and Howard were fortunate enough to be able to stay for the pretty weather on monday. We headed out monday morning in slick calm seas with high expectations. Hit the first spot after a 2 hour run and the fishing wasn't quite up to par. We caught a few ajs and almacos but all in all it wasn't quite what we were looking for so we made a short move and still it wasn't quite right. We made one more move and it was on. One drop one fish for the next several hours with ajs up to 60 lbs, 5 african pompanos up to 36 lbs, gag grouper, wahoo, and cobia. We all in all we had an awesome day with lots of variety. The conditions were perfect and the fish bit good. Thanks guys for more great times. Cheers!

Great job there young man. Wish I could have been on the water that day, because it sure looks nice.

Got to like the variety that spot continues to produce. 36 is a big pompano. That color of the Katana was low on my list... till now. Pig Roast, and the holograms were my choice. Wow. That is one trip that guy will not forget soon.
Were the Ap's on the bottom or mid water?

Well, Jim, you can take some solace that you were there sort of. My friend, Howard, is from LA and has never jigged. So I started him out with the 240g Katana in the Yellow glow pattern. He then proceeds to use it FOR THE ENTIRE DAY!! No bite offs. (And Howard loves to change rigs at the drop of a hat!) AND, he catches (from bottom to top), a nice gag, too many AJs and Almacos to count, a big African, and the 'hoo!! Covered the entire water column and caught fish. That thing is one helluva jig. I used the pot roast (lost it), pig roast, and the green glow. All worked (take a look at the jig on my AP). The chartreuse seemed to be the color of the day, though.

BTW, here's how the poor jig looked after Howard (and the fish) got done with it:

Sure did some yeoman's duty. Great work!
