    Windons-Chinese finger cuff

I started attempting to make my own windon leaders. I have been using the instructions on this tutorial.

    http://www.marinews.com/Wind-on-Leader-601.php

In that tutorial the mono doesn't seem to go up the Dacron far enough so I have been inserting the mono between 4-5ft up the dacron for a secure "Chinese finger cuff". So far without putting glue on the leader or a whip finish I have been able to lean pretty hard on the leader without the mono slipping out.

    So these are my questions:

Would it be enough just to finish the leader with glue were the mono enters the Dacron without tying a whip finish just so the dacron won't slip up the mono?

Theoreticly should the "Chinese finger cuff" work without the addition of glue and whip finishing?

    Thanks all for your help!!

It should hold without the whip. I believe it is just a safety measure. I have just started making my own as well. I am putting the fluoro/mono up the JB hollow core about 18-24" and that has held up. I am doing the glue and whip as well though. The first one I made broke at just over 80lb on a spring scale using 80lb hollow core and 80lb fluoro...also made me fall on my butt when it broke!

Thanks Mitch. 18"-24" up the hollow core is shorter than I thought. I must be losing a lot of this expensive flurocarbon up the Dacron then!!

I like the way they whipped that one in the video. I use a different technique though for the rest...but will be changing over to that whip! Thanks!

I thought the same thing...thats why I started and tested my first one. It didn't sound like enough, but I didn't want to use too much! that stuff is expensive.

Don't use the super glue on fluorocarbon. It can wear it down. Something in the flourocarbon doesn't like the stuff where using ot on mono is fine. Go buy some cold water surf wax and rub it on the connection after you flossit.

Mitch....What do you use for the whip? Un-waxed dental floss? The example in that video be done without a bobbin? I don't have one.

Capt. I was going to use Loc-tite. I found one that is for plastics and is a two stage system. A primer then the glue. Do you think that would work?

I have used unwaxed dental floss...I have also used some thread that I use for rod building. I don't have a bobbin either, but I have been tying a bunch of half hitches and then finishing it off with a uni knot once you get to the leader. It isn't as pretty as what they did in your link. I think I'll give it a try though.

As for the adhesive...I use pliobond. It remains very flexible so it seems ideal for this use. You can get it at this website...

    http://www.bhptackle.com/home.php?cat=90

Here's what that website says about it...
"Pliobond is the ideal "dac-tac" for spectra-to-mono connections. Pliobond permanently joins metals, wood, plastics, ceramics, glass, rubber, leather, and fabrics. Pliobond sets fast, stays flexible, and is permanent. Comes in a 2-ounce reusable applicator bottle."

    Whip it...

The floss is done for a number of reasons....keeps the end of the dacron from fraying while going in and out of the guides, keeps everything tight, if you wrap to close and the line slips in your hand the finger cuff will push togather and the line will slip out, it is not flexible when it is tight going through the roller tip at a 90 degree angle it is going to crack, once the glue cracks it has broken the bond it is worthless, and dont use loc-tite go with zap-a-gap or super glue you want a type of glue that is thin so it can absorb into the floss and dacron...
