Here is a detail of the serve we use and how it is finished off. We also use a serving tool. I have made my own bowstrings for 20 years and just carried it over to windons.......Mark

www.tournamentcable.com has a video about making wind on leaders as well. it seems pretty informative.

what size dacron goes with what size mono when making wind ons? $12 a pop for a mono wind on seems kinda high and they look pretty simple to make.

I like both dacron and Spectra but now days use far more spectra to make windons. For the fishing we do I use 80-100lb dacron for 80-130lb mono or flouro without any problems. I use 100lb spectra for 80-130 mono or flouro. The dacron windons are easier to remove and change than a spectra windon. The spectra windons are a little more streamline and have more longevity but even our dacron windon are swiched out before the dacron starts to fray or weaken. The dacron windons are also easier to make than the spectra windons....Mark

I've started to make my own wind-ons per the instructions of Basil. His advice to use 80lb JB for 60-100lb mono wind-ons is perfect. The 80lb JB opens up very easily and makes insertion a breeze.
