    Will this work

I've always used bucktail jigs when deep jigging and take pride in tying my own. I make a lot of my own tackle, rods, jigs, fly's, chugger plugs etc.

Well with the current craze over speed jigging, I figured I'd give that a try sometime but couldn't see spending a lot of bucks on the price of these things. I visited my local thrift shop and picked up some stainless table knives on the cheap and disappeared into my workshop. Using a sawsall, I whacked the blade off, drilled a hole and ground the edge a little bit. The solid ring is made from the core of an old teleflex cable which was brazed with a handy dandy brazing kit from Ace Hardware. A little help from the videos on YouTube assisted in making the assist hooks (6/0 Mustad) with 80# Dacron. The whole thing weighs 2.25 oz.

I think I'm doing it backwards....getting jigs before getting jigging rods and reels hahahaha. Oh well, gotta take advantage of sales while you can.

I think you'll find that the dacron is too limp, and the hooks will sometimes get wrapped around your main line on the drop.

Good jigs are well worth the $ when you look at what it costs to go out on the ocean for a days fishing trip. So long as you don't make a habit of hanging up your jigs on the rocks.

    that's funny stuff right there!

When they are chewing, it will catch fish. I could see it catching and AJ or cuda.

I bet they will catch ya some jacks!! Someone sent me a link last week to some other homemade "knife" jigs they had made and they worked great. They had added strips of glow colors to the sides of them. Super neat idea!!

Make sure you post reports and pictures of your catches. There's no doubt they will work.
