Why Not Ditch the Solid Ring?

So why not just get rid of the solid ring and set up all your jigs like this?

Just attach your assist hooks to your swivel...and the swivel to the split ring. Then just change out jigs with your split ring pliers. Plus you get a strong barrel swivel to prevent any line twist. Some of the store bought jigs I'm not sure I trust the solid rings as some look like a hardware store washers so I'm unsure of it's strengh. The Owner Hyper Swivel even has one ring larger than the other for attaching assist hooks.

I use a corkscrew swivel on the end of my line to quickly change out jigs. I haven't had any problems with the welded rings on jigs.

tons of guys do this - its a very good way to set up your jigs. i have two personal cons:

1 - if you switch from a long to a short jig i like the length of the assist hook to change also.

2 - this isnt really a problem, but my swivels solid rings are a little small for my taste. but i do still have plenty of jigs rigged this way - but i tend to cut them and grab another rigged jig when i want to change.

    Assits..

there is a few styles of rigging.. a jigg

some of the rigs from Playa del Carmen MX!! note hte 16/0 circle..

The last January weekend Playa del Carmen MX had Its 4th Jigging Tournament. it will be a yearly event!!

it is very interesting to see how some of the conventional ways of rigging will change as the lack of gear.. is improvised

No Kevlar for an assist ?? use a welding rod... as you can see on the last pic..

Circle hooks ?? we are dropping 300 to 400 feet with a strong current 5 to 6 knots.

If the jig drags it will not hang or snag..

just go fishing on a panga.
